Touring the GUI
Let's take a look at the various components of what Code Roller typically looks like when you have signed in.
- The links in the upper right hand corner are mostly what you need to respond to on a day to day basis.
- For the most part, reviews notify you when someone has reviewed one of your deliverables. There are links in the review notice that will take you to both what was being reviewed and to the review itself. Delete each review notice once you are finished with it.
- You and others can generate tasks for yourself. Think of a task as a TODO or a reminder. The system may also generate tasks for you. For example, coders get a task generated for each detailed design that gets approved.
- You visit the Defects area to either log new defects or fix defects that have been assigned to you.
- You can always access user profiles and edit your own.
- Help is always available if you need it.
- The breadcrumbs help you navigate and orient yourself on the site. They also explicitly reveal the hierarchy of the site.
- Keyword search is always available once you have signed in.
- The workspace is where you go to manage your deliverables.
- The desired features and functionality of the intended application are captured in the requiremnts.
- Use cases are the analyzed variation of requirements. They help the key decision makers prioritize and strategize the requirements.
- Each design is a plan for implementing what is documented in its corresponding use case.
- A test plan is a plan for testing the implemented functionality as documented in the corresponding use case.
- There is a diagraming facility here where diagrams can be associated with many of the deliverables.
- There is a Content Management System here where document revisions can be attached to many of the deliverables.
- There is also an online, real-time chat facility here where you can go to discuss deliverables with others.
- The opportunity section is where you go to find projects or teams to work on.
- Learn what your other peers are doing by reading their blogs.
- Search through your peer's profiles to find good candidates for your teams.
- Search through the list of projects to find interesting things for you to work on.
- Search through the list of teams to find interesting people that you would like to work with.
- Learn more about the process of developing good software.
- The grey recently visited box contains where you have been recently and is very helpful for going back and forth when you need to create multiple, dependent items.
- The green projects box contains the list of your projects.
- The blue teams box contains the list of teams that you participate with.
- The orange calendar box contains your upcoming scheduled events.
- There are a bar of links in the footer section that are of relevance.
